freccia A little flashback of the laboratory

Under the direction of Prof Ing. Alberto Rovetta, the Laboratory of Robotics (Dept. of Mechanics) at the Politecnico of Milan has been developing research projects on robotics and systems' mechanics. These include: " Gilberto", the first voice commanded robot, a robotic mechanical hand , a mechatronic leg prothesis, automatic assembly systems, program applications simulated and modelled by means of a computer, sensory feedback control gloves as well as the design of robot systems for industrial applications.

On 7 July 1993 the first surgical telerobotic experiment on a long-distance model took place. This was conducted between the Politecnico di Milano and the JPL Centre, Nasa in Los Angeles, with intercontinental connection via satellite.

The research group was assisted by both Italian and foreign researchers, graduates and thesis students from different disciplines, such as mechanics, electronics, informatics and work organization. Numerous international research centres also took part in this project. In collaboration with hospital centres, the research is aimed at the development of medical and surgical robotics as well computer aided simulations for neuromotor reabilitation.
